Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Remove the New York Strip Steak from the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking. This ensures even cooking.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Pat the steak dry with paper towels. Rub both sides of the steak with olive oil, then generously season with kosher salt, freshly ground black pepper, and garlic powder. Let it sit for about 15 minutes to absorb the flavors.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Pan

Preheat your grill or a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes until it's hot.

  2. 4

    Cook the Steak

Place the seasoned New York Strip Steak on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side without moving it, until a nice crust forms. Flip the steak and cook for another 4-5 minutes for medium-rare, or longer depending on your desired doneness.

  3. 5

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the heat and place it on a cutting board. Tent it loosely with aluminum foil and let it rest for about 5-10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat.

Serving

  1. 6

    Slice and Serve

After resting, slice the steak against the grain into strips. Serve on a plate with a sprig of fresh rosemary and a lemon wedge on the side for an extra burst of flavor.
