Pasta

Topping (optional)

Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring water to a boil over high heat. Add a generous pinch of salt.

  2. 2

    Cook Macaroni

Add the macaroni to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain and Set Aside

Once cooked, drain the macaroni in a colander and set aside.

Making the Cheese Sauce

  1. 4

    Melt Butter

In the same pot (or a large saucepan), melt the butter over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Add Flour

Once the butter has melted, whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute to form a roux.

  3. 6

    Add Milk

Gradually add the milk while whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Cook until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

  4. 7

    Add Cheddar and Seasonings

Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.

Combining and Baking

  1. 8

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir well to ensure all the pasta is coated.

  2. 9

    Prepare for Baking

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour the macaroni and cheese mixture into a greased baking dish.

  3. 10

    Add Topping (Optional)

In a small bowl, mix breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, and paprika. Sprinkle evenly over the macaroni and cheese.

  4. 11

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until the top is golden and bubbly.
