Equipment
Optional Flavoring
Method
Roasting Coffee
- 1
Measure Beans
Using the scale, measure out 1 cup of green coffee beans.
- 2
Preheat Roaster
Preheat your coffee roaster according to the manufacturer's instructions, typically around 400°F (204°C).
- 3
Roast Coffee Beans
Place the measured green coffee beans into the roaster and start the roasting process. Monitor the beans closely. They will begin to change color and emit a cracking sound when they reach light roast, around 8-10 minutes.
- 4
Check Roast Level
For a medium roast, continue roasting for another 2-3 minutes. For a dark roast, roast for 4-5 minutes more. Use your senses to judge the roast level according to your preference.
- 5
Cool the Beans
Once the desired roast level is reached, immediately transfer the beans to a cooling tray to stop the roasting process. Allow them to cool for at least 10 minutes.
- 6
Store the Coffee
Once cooled, store the roasted coffee beans in an airtight container to preserve freshness.
Grinding Coffee
- 7
Measure Roasted Beans
Take the desired amount of roasted coffee beans from the airtight container.
- 8
Grind Coffee Beans
Using a coffee grinder, grind the roasted beans to your preferred coarseness, adjusting based on your brewing method (coarse for French press, fine for espresso).
Flavoring (Optional)
- 9
Add Flavor
If desired, add 1 tsp of cinnamon or vanilla extract to the ground coffee for an added flavor profile before brewing.
