Method
Preparing the Turkey
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
- 2
Prepare the Turkey
Remove the giblets from the turkey cavity. Rinse the turkey under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
- 3
Season the Turkey
Rub the turkey all over with salt, pepper, sage, thyme, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- 4
Stuff the Turkey
Fill the turkey cavity with stuffing, packing it lightly. If you have leftover stuffing, you can bake it separately.
- 5
Roast the Turkey
Place the turkey on a roasting pan and roast in the preheated oven for about 13-15 minutes per pound, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
Making the Gravy
- 6
Collect Drippings
Once the turkey is done, remove it from the oven and let it rest. Collect the drippings from the pan.
- 7
Make the Roux
In a saucepan, melt the drippings over medium heat. Whisk in the flour, cooking for about 2 minutes until it's golden.
- 8
Add Liquid
Slowly whisk in water or broth, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens. Season with additional salt and pepper if needed.
