Sushi Rice

Sashimi

Vegetable Garnish

Method

Prepare Sushi Rice

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

Place the sushi rice in a fine mesh strainer and rinse under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch.

  2. 2

    Cook the Rice

In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed sushi rice and water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 18-20 minutes or until the water is absorbed.

  3. 3

    Season the Rice

In a small bowl, mix together rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a large bowl and gently fold in the vinegar mixture using a wooden spatula. Let it cool to room temperature.

Prepare Sashimi

  1. 4

    Slice the Fish

Using a sharp knife, slice the fresh salmon and tuna into thin sashimi pieces, about 1/4 inch thick. Arrange them neatly on a serving plate.

  2. 5

    Prepare Wasabi and Soy Sauce

Place a small amount of wasabi paste on the side of the plate and pour soy sauce into a small dipping dish for serving.

Prepare Vegetable Garnish

  1. 6

    Slice the Cucumber

Thinly slice the cucumber into rounds or half-moons using a sharp knife.

  2. 7

    Slice the Avocado

Cut the avocado in half, remove the pit, and slice the flesh into thin wedges.

  3. 8

    Garnish with Sesame Seeds

Sprinkle the sesame seeds over the sliced cucumber and avocado for added flavor.
