Method
Cooking the Pasta
- 1
Boil Water
In a large pot, bring 4 liters of water to a rolling boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the boiling water.
- 2
Cook Bucatini
Add 400 grams of bucatini pasta to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions, usually about 9-11 minutes, or until al dente.
- 3
Reserve Pasta Water
Before draining the pasta, reserve about 1 cup of the pasta cooking water. Drain the bucatini using a colander.
Making the Sauce
- 4
Sauté Garlic
In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add 4 minced garlic cloves and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.
- 5
Add Red Pepper Flakes
Stir in 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes and cook for an additional 30 seconds to infuse the oil with heat.
- 6
Add Tomatoes
Pour in 800 grams of canned crushed tomatoes. Stir well and let the sauce simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing flavors to meld.
- 7
Combine Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained bucatini to the skillet with the sauce. Toss to combine, adding reserved pasta water a little at a time until the sauce reaches your desired consistency.
- 8
Finish with Basil and Cheese
Stir in 1 cup of chopped fresh basil and 100 grams of grated Parmesan cheese. Mix thoroughly, allowing the cheese to melt and flavors to blend.
