Method

Preparing the Lamb

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground lamb, minced garlic, dried oregano, ground cumin, paprika, salt, black pepper, and olive oil. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.

  2. 2

    Shape the Mixture

With your hands, shape the mixture into small patties or meatballs, depending on your preference.

  3. 3

    Cook the Lamb

Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the lamb patties or meatballs and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until cooked through and browned. Remove from heat and let rest.

Making the Tzatziki Sauce

  1. 4

    Combine the Ingredients

In a bowl, mix together the Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, minced garlic, chopped fresh dill, lemon juice, and salt. Stir until well combined.

  2. 5

    Chill

Refrigerate the tzatziki sauce for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Assembling the Gyro

  1. 6

    Warm the Pita

Lightly toast the pita bread in a dry skillet or wrap them in foil and warm in the oven for a few minutes.

  2. 7

    Assemble the Gyro

On each piece of warmed pita, layer the cooked lamb, diced tomatoes, sliced red onion, and shredded lettuce. Drizzle with tzatziki sauce.

  3. 8

    Serve

Fold the pita over the filling and serve immediately with extra tzatziki on the side.
