Method
Cooking the Pasta
- 1
Boil Water
In a large pot, bring 4 liters of water to a rolling boil over high heat.
- 2
Add Salt
Once the water is boiling, add 1 tablespoon of salt to enhance the flavor of the pasta.
- 3
Cook Spaghetti
Add 400 grams of spaghetti to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, until al dente.
- 4
Drain Pasta
Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside. Reserve a cup of the pasta water if needed for the sauce.
Making the Sauce
- 5
Sauté Garlic
In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add 3 minced garlic cloves and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- 6
Add Tomatoes
Pour in 800 grams of canned tomatoes, crushing them slightly with a spoon. Stir to combine with garlic.
- 7
Season the Sauce
Add 1 tablespoon of basil, 1 teaspoon of oregano, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Stir the mixture and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes.
- 8
Combine Pasta and Sauce
Once the sauce is ready, add the drained spaghetti to the skillet. Toss to coat the pasta in the sauce. If the sauce is too thick, add reserved pasta water a little at a time.
- 9
Serve
Serve the spaghetti hot, topped with 50 grams of grated Parmesan cheese.
