Grate the Potatoes
Using a box grater or a food processor, grate the peeled potatoes into a large mixing bowl.
- 3
- 4
Remove Excess Moisture
Place the grated potatoes and onion in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze out as much moisture as possible. This will help the hash browns become crispy.
Cooking
- 5
Heat the Oil
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it shimmers.
- 6
Form the Hash Browns
Take a handful of the potato mixture and form a patty. Carefully place it in the hot oil. Repeat with the remaining mixture, ensuring not to overcrowd the skillet.
- 7
Cook Until Golden Brown
Cook the hash browns for about 4-5 minutes on one side, until golden brown. Flip and cook for another 4-5 minutes on the other side.
- 8
Add Butter
In the last minute of cooking, add a tablespoon of butter to the skillet and spoon it over the hash browns for added flavor.
- 9
Drain and Season
Once cooked, remove the hash browns from the skillet and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
