For the Shrimp

Method

Preparation of Shrimp

  1. 1

    Season the Shrimp

In a medium bowl, combine the raw shrimp, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and garlic powder. Toss to coat the shrimp evenly with the seasonings. Let it marinate for about 15 minutes.

Breading Process

  1. 2

    Prepare Breading Station

Set up a breading station by placing the flour in one shallow dish, cornstarch in another, and whisk the eggs with milk in a third shallow dish.

  2. 3

    Bread the Shrimp

Take each marinated shrimp, dip it first in the flour, shaking off the excess, then dip into the egg and milk mixture, and finally coat it with cornstarch. Ensure the shrimp are well-coated.

Frying the Shrimp

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large frying pan or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test this by dropping a small piece of bread into the oil; it should sizzle immediately.

  2. 5

    Fry the Shrimp

Carefully place the breaded shrimp in the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the shrimp and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Serving

  1. 6

    Serve

Serve the fried shrimp hot with your choice of dipping sauce, such as cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, or a spicy aioli.
