Method

Preparation of Fried Onions

  1. 1

    Slice the Onion

Peel the large onion and slice it thinly into rings.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Batter

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Dip the Onions

Pour the buttermilk into a separate bowl. Dip each onion ring into the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off, then coat in the flour mixture.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Onions

Carefully add the coated onion rings to the hot oil in batches, frying until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Cooking Hot Dogs

  1. 6

    Cook the Hot Dogs

Grill or boil the hot dogs according to package instructions until heated through.

  2. 7

    Prepare the Buns

Toast the hot dog buns on the grill or in a toaster until lightly golden.

Assembly

  1. 8

    Assemble the Fried Onion Dog

Place each hot dog into a toasted bun and top generously with the crispy fried onions.

  2. 9

    Serve

Serve immediately with your favorite condiments such as mustard, ketchup, or relish.
