Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together until evenly mixed.

  2. 2

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  3. 3

    Form the Dough

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir with a wooden spoon or spatula until just combined. The dough will be sticky.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

Dust a clean surface with a bit of flour and turn the dough out onto it. Knead gently for about 1-2 minutes until it is slightly smoother but still sticky.

Frying and Serving

  1. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can use a thermometer to check the temperature.

  2. 6

    Fry the Dough

Using a spoon or ice cream scoop, drop small amounts of dough into the hot oil. Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

  3. 7

    Drain and Dust with Sugar

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried dough from the oil and let it drain on paper towels. While still warm, dust generously with powdered sugar.

  4. 8

    Serve

Serve the fried dough warm, with additional powdered sugar on the side if desired.
