Method

Preparing the Burger Patties

  1. 1

    Form the Patties

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently to combine, avoiding overworking the meat. Divide the mixture into two equal portions and form each portion into a patty, about 3/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Chill the Patties

Place the formed patties on a plate and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to help them hold their shape during cooking.

Cooking the Burger Patties

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Pan

Heat a grill or a skillet over medium-high heat until hot.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and place a slice of cheddar cheese on top. Cook for an additional 4-5 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for safety.

Assembling the Cheeseburgers

  1. 5

    Prepare the Buns

While the patties are cooking, lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

  2. 6

    Build the Burger

Spread ketchup and mustard on the bottom half of each bun. Place a cooked patty with melted cheese on top, followed by lettuce, tomato slices, onion slices, and pickles. Top with the other half of the bun.
