Toppings

Method

Preparing the Burger Patty

  1. 1

    Mix Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground bison, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce.

  2. 2

    Combine Mixture

Using your hands, gently mix the ingredients until just combined. Avoid overworking the meat to keep the burger tender.

  3. 3

    Shape Patty

Form the mixture into a patty, about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of the patty with your thumb to help it cook evenly.

Cooking the Burger

  1. 4

    Heat Cooking Surface

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat.

  2. 5

    Cook One Side

Once heated, place the bison patty on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side.

  3. 6

    Cook Other Side

Flip the burger and cook for another 4-5 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) to ensure it is cooked thoroughly.

  4. 7

    Melt Cheese

In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of the patty to melt.

  5. 8

    Rest Burger

Remove the burger from the heat and let it rest for a few minutes before assembling.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 9

    Toast Bun

Toast the burger bun lightly on the grill or in a toaster if desired.

  2. 10

    Add Patty

Place the rested bison patty with melted cheese on the bottom half of the bun.

  3. 11

    Add Toppings

Top with lettuce, tomato slices, red onion slices, ketchup, and mustard to taste.

  4. 12

    Complete Burger

Cover with the top half of the bun and serve immediately.
