Method

Burger Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Bison Patty

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground bison, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Use your hands to gently mix the ingredients together, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patty

Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into a patty. Make sure the patty is slightly larger than the burger bun, as it will shrink while cooking.

Cooking the Burger

  1. 3

    Preheat Grill or Skillet

Preheat your grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, you may add a little oil to prevent sticking.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patty

Place the bison patty on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip it and cook for another 3-4 minutes, or until it reaches your desired level of doneness (medium-rare is recommended for bison).

  3. 5

    Add Cheese

During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of the patty and cover it with a lid, allowing the cheese to melt.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 6

    Toast the Bun

Lightly toast the burger bun on the grill or in a toaster.

  2. 7

    Build the Burger

On the bottom half of the bun, place the lettuce leaf, followed by the cooked bison patty with melted cheese. Add tomato slices and pickles on top. Finish with ketchup and mustard to taste. Top with the other half of the bun.
