Method

Bison Patty Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 lb of ground bison, 1 tsp of salt, 1 tsp of black pepper, 1 tsp of garlic powder, and 1 tsp of onion powder. Mix gently until just combined.

  2. 2

    Form Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions, shaping each portion into a patty about 1/3 lb in weight and 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing while cooking.

Cooking the Patties

  1. 3

    Heat the Pan

Heat a large skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Add 1 tbsp of olive oil and allow it to heat until shimmering.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the bison patties in the hot skillet or on the grill. Cook for 4-5 minutes on one side until a crust forms, then flip and cook for another 4-5 minutes for medium-rare. Adjust cooking time for desired doneness.

Burger Assembly

  1. 5

    Prepare the Buns

While the patties are cooking, slice the burger buns in half and toast them lightly on a separate pan or in a toaster if desired.

  2. 6

    Layer Ingredients

Assemble the burgers by placing the cooked bison patty on the bottom half of each bun. Top with lettuce, sliced tomato, cheese (if using), pickles, ketchup, and mustard. Cap with the top half of the bun.
