Method
Ice Cream Base Preparation
- 1
Mix the Base Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Whisk together until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- 2
Chill the Mixture
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour to chill. This helps the flavors meld and improves the texture.
Churning the Ice Cream
- 3
Prepare the Ice Cream Maker
Follow the manufacturer's instructions to prepare your ice cream maker. Ensure the bowl is properly frozen if required.
- 4
Churn the Ice Cream
Pour the chilled ice cream base into the ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually about 20-25 minutes until it thickens and reaches a soft-serve consistency.
Adding Mix-ins
- 5
Incorporate Mix-ins
If desired, add your chosen mix-ins (chocolate chips, chopped nuts, or fresh fruits) during the last 5 minutes of churning.
Freezing
- 6
Transfer to Freezer Container
Once the ice cream has reached a soft-serve consistency, transfer it to an airtight container. Smooth the top with a spatula.
- 7
Freeze Until Firm
Cover the container and place it in the freezer for at least 4 hours or until the ice cream is fully firm.
