Preparation Steps
- 1
Make the Dough
In a large bowl, mix together flour, salt, sugar, and yeast. In another bowl, warm the milk until it's lukewarm and then add the butter. Combine wet and dry ingredients until a dough forms. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- 2
First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
- 3
Prepare Butter Layer
While the dough is rising, prepare the butter layer by placing the unsalted butter between two sheets of parchment paper. Use a rolling pin to flatten it into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick, then refrigerate until firm.

Shape the Croissants
After the final fold, roll the dough into a large rectangle again. Cut into triangles and roll each triangle from the base to the tip. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 6
Second Rise
Cover the shaped croissants with a clean towel and let them rise for about 1 hour or until puffy.
- 7
Bake
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the croissants for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
