Baklava Ingredients

Method

Baklava Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Phyllo Dough

Thaw the phyllo dough according to package instructions. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 2

    Make the Filling

In a bowl, combine the chopped pistachios, sugar, and ground cinnamon. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Layer the Phyllo

Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter. Layer 10 sheets of phyllo dough in the dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter before adding the next.

  4. 4

    Add the Filling

Sprinkle half of the pistachio mixture evenly over the phyllo layers.

  5. 5

    Continue Layering

Layer another 5 sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter, then add the remaining pistachio mixture.

  6. 6

    Top with Phyllo

Finish with another 10 sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter. Cut the baklava into diamond shapes before baking.

  7. 7

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes or until golden brown.

  8. 8

    Make the Syrup

While baklava is baking, combine water, sugar, lemon juice, and rose water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes.

  9. 9

    Soak the Baklava

Once the baklava is out of the oven, immediately pour the syrup over it and allow it to soak for at least 4 hours before serving.
