Preparation Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Phyllo Dough

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Melt the unsalted butter in a small saucepan. Lay out the phyllo dough on a clean surface and cover it with a damp cloth to prevent it from drying out.

  2. 2

    Layer the Phyllo

Brush a baking dish (approximately 9x13 inches) with melted butter. Place one sheet of phyllo dough in the dish and brush it with more melted butter. Repeat this process until you have about 8 layers, brushing each layer with butter.

  3. 3

    Add the Nutella and Walnuts

Spread a thin layer of Nutella over the phyllo. Sprinkle half of the chopped walnuts evenly over the Nutella. Add another 4 layers of phyllo, brushing each with butter as you go.

  4. 4

    Repeat the Layers

Spread another layer of Nutella, followed by the remaining walnuts. Add another 8 layers of phyllo, brushing each with melted butter.

  5. 5

    Cut and Bake

Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown.

  6. 6

    Prepare the Syrup

While the baklava is baking, combine water, sugar, honey, ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool.

  7. 7

    Finish the Baklava

Once the baklava is done baking, pour the cooled syrup evenly over the hot baklava. Allow it to absorb for at least 3 hours before serving.
