Method
Cake Preparation
- 1
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- 3
- 4
Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until well combined.
- 5
Add Boiling Water
Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.
- 6
Bake the Cake
Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 7
Cool the Cakes
Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.
Ganache Frosting Preparation
- 8
Heat Cream
In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer.
- 9
Add Chocolate Chips
Remove the saucepan from the heat and add the semi-sweet chocolate chips. Let it sit for about 5 minutes to melt.
- 10
Stir Until Smooth
Stir the mixture until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth. Add the butter and mix until combined.
- 11
Cool Ganache
Let the ganache cool to room temperature until it thickens to a spreadable consistency.
- 12
Frost the Cake
Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of ganache on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining ganache.
