Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Peel and Cut Potatoes

Peel the Russet potatoes using a vegetable peeler. Cut them into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick, to create the fries. Rinse the cut potatoes under cold water to remove excess starch.

Soaking

  1. 2

    Soak Potatoes

Place the cut potatoes in a large bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove more starch and makes for crispier fries.

Heating Oil

  1. 3

    Heat Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, pour in the vegetable oil and heat it to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the correct temperature for frying.

Frying

  1. 4

    Fry Potatoes

Drain the soaked potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Carefully add a handful of fries to the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  2. 5

    Remove and Drain

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.

  3. 6

    Repeat

Continue frying the remaining batches of fries, ensuring the oil temperature remains consistent.

Seasoning

  1. 7

    Season Fries

Once all the fries are fried and drained, sprinkle them with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Toss gently to ensure even seasoning.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve Hot

Serve the French fries hot as a side dish or snack. Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauces!
