Pasta

Breadcrumb Topping

Method

Preparing the Pasta

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Making the Cheese Sauce

  1. 2

    Create a Roux

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, whisk in the all-purpose flour and cook for about 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until the mixture is bubbly and golden.

  2. 3

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to stir until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 4

    Incorporate the Cheeses

Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the cheddar, Monterey Jack, cream cheese, and Parmesan until fully melted and smooth. Season with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.

Combining and Topping

  1. 5

    Mix Pasta and Cheese Sauce

In a large mixing bowl, combine the drained macaroni and cheese sauce. Stir until the pasta is fully coated in the sauce.

  2. 6

    Prepare the Breadcrumb Topping

In a small bowl, mix together the breadcrumbs, melted butter, paprika, garlic powder, and salt until well combined.

  3. 7

    Assemble and Bake

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the macaroni and cheese mixture to a greased baking dish. Evenly sprinkle the breadcrumb topping over the macaroni. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and crispy.
