Fried Pickles
Max Sauce
Method
Fried Pickles
- 1
Prepare the Pickles
Slice the large dill pickles into 1/4 inch thick slices and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- 2
Prepare the Breading
In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, salt, black pepper, paprika, and cayenne pepper. Mix well.
- 3
Prepare the Wet Mixture
In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and the egg until fully combined.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the readiness by dropping a small amount of batter into the oil; it should sizzle immediately.
- 5
Coat the Pickles
Dunk each pickle slice first into the wet mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then coat it in the breading mixture. Ensure each slice is evenly coated.
- 6
Fry the Pickles
Carefully place the coated pickles into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
- 7
Drain and Serve
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried pickles and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve warm with max sauce.
Max Sauce
- 8
Combine Ingredients
In a mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise, ketchup, hot sauce, lemon juice, garlic powder, and salt. Mix well until smooth.
- 9
Adjust Seasoning
Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning with additional salt if desired to enhance flavor.
- 10
Serve
Transfer the max sauce to a serving bowl and serve alongside the fried pickles for dipping.
