Method

Pie Crust Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Pie Crust

In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. 2

    Add Ice Water

Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing with a fork until the dough begins to come together.

  3. 3

    Chill the Dough

Form the dough into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Apple Filling Preparation

  1. 4

    Prepare the Apples

Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges.

  2. 5

    Mix the Filling

In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Toss until apples are evenly coated.

Assembling and Baking

  1. 6

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 7

    Roll Out the Crust

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to fit a 9-inch pie pan. Place the dough in the pie pan and trim the excess.

  3. 8

    Fill the Pie

Pour the apple filling into the prepared pie crust, spreading evenly.

  4. 9

    Top with Crust

Roll out the remaining dough for the top crust. Cut slits for ventilation, then place over the filling. Seal the edges and flute if desired.

  5. 10

    Bake the Pie

Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35-45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.

  6. 11

    Cool the Pie

Allow the pie to cool for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Serving

  1. 12

    Serve with Toppings

Slice the pie and serve warm with scoops of vanilla ice cream on top. Drizzle with caramel sauce.
