Beer Battered Fish & Chips

Method

Preparation Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Chips

Peel the potatoes and cut them into thick strips. Soak the potato strips in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually whisk in the beer until the batter is smooth and thick.

  3. 3

    Fry the Chips

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C). Drain the potatoes and pat them dry. Fry the potato strips in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels. Season with salt.

  4. 4

    Fry the Fish

Dip the fish fillets into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Carefully place them in the hot oil and fry until golden brown and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  5. 5

    Serve

Serve the beer-battered fish with house-made chips, tartar sauce, and tavern pickles on the side.
