Method

Preparation

1

Wash and Peel the Potatoes

Wash the Russet potatoes thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt. Peel the potatoes using a vegetable peeler, then cut them into even sticks, about 1/4 inch thick.

2

Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potato sticks in a large bowl filled with cold water. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and makes the fries crispier.

Frying

3

Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or a heavy-bottomed pot, pour the vegetable oil and heat it over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can use a thermometer to check the temperature.

4

Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry using a clean kitchen towel or paper towels. This step is crucial to avoid oil splatter during frying.

5

Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a batch of the dried potato sticks to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry them for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.

6

Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to taste. Toss them gently to ensure even seasoning.

Serving

7

Serve Hot

Serve the fries hot as a delicious snack or side dish. You can accompany them with ketchup, mayonnaise, or your favorite dipping sauce.
