For Assembly

Method

Prepare the Espresso Mixture

  1. 1

    Brew the Espresso

Brew 1 cup of strong espresso coffee and let it cool to room temperature.

  2. 2

    Mix the Espresso

In a shallow dish, combine the cooled espresso with 2 tablespoons of coffee liqueur (if using) and 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.

Prepare the Cream Mixture

  1. 3

    Whisk the Egg Yolks

In a heatproof bowl, whisk together 3 large egg yolks and 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar. Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler) and whisk until the mixture is pale and slightly thickened, about 5 minutes.

  2. 4

    Combine with Mascarpone

Remove the bowl from heat and let it cool slightly. Gently fold in 1 cup of mascarpone cheese and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth.

  3. 5

    Whip the Cream

In a separate bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream until stiff peaks form.

  4. 6

    Fold Cream into Mixture

Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully combined and smooth.

Assemble the Tiramisu

  1. 7

    Dip Ladyfingers

Quickly dip 24 ladyfinger cookies into the espresso mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.

  2. 8

    Layer the Ingredients

In a rectangular dish, layer half of the soaked ladyfingers at the bottom. Spread half of the cream mixture over the ladyfingers.

  3. 9

    Repeat Layers

Add another layer of the remaining soaked ladyfingers followed by the remaining cream mixture.

  4. 10

    Chill and Dust

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight. Before serving, dust the top with 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder.
