Ingredients

Sushi Rice

Preparation

Prepare Sushi Rice

1. Rinse the Rice

Place sushi rice in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch.

2. Cook the Rice

In a medium saucepan, combine rinsed sushi rice and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18-20 minutes until water is absorbed.

3. Season the Rice

In a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a bowl and gently fold in the vinegar mixture. Allow the rice to cool to room temperature.

Prepare Filling

4. Mix Tuna Filling

In a bowl, combine drained canned tuna and mayonnaise. Mix well until the tuna is evenly coated with mayo.

5. Slice Avocado and Cucumber

Carefully slice the avocado in half, remove the pit, and cut it into thin slices. Thinly slice the cucumber.

Assemble the Rolls

6. Prepare Nori Sheet

Lay a nori sheet shiny side down on a bamboo sushi mat. Wet your hands to prevent sticking.

7. Spread the Rice

Take a handful of sushi rice and spread it evenly over the nori, leaving about 1 inch at the top edge of the sheet.

8. Add Filling

Place a line of tuna filling, avocado slices, and cucumber slices across the middle of the rice.

9. Roll the Sushi

Using the sushi mat, carefully roll the nori away from you, tucking in the filling as you go. Roll until you reach the bare edge of the nori. Moisten the edge with a little water to seal the roll.

10. Slice and Serve

Using a sharp knife, slice the roll into bite-sized pieces. Serve with soy sauce and wasabi on the side.
