For the Blackened Tuna

Method

Preparing the Blackened Tuna

  1. 1

    Create the Spice Mixture

In a small bowl, combine paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, black pepper, and salt. Mix well to create a spice blend.

  2. 2

    Season the Tuna

Pat the tuna steaks dry with a paper towel. Rub the spice mixture generously over both sides of each tuna steak.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a skillet, heat olive oil over high heat until it starts to shimmer.

  4. 4

    Sear the Tuna

Once the oil is hot, carefully place the seasoned tuna steaks in the skillet. Sear for about 1-2 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or longer if you prefer it well done.

  5. 5

    Rest the Tuna

Remove the tuna from the skillet and let it rest for a couple of minutes before slicing.

Making the Wasabi Mayo Sauce

  1. 6

    Combine Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine mayonnaise, wasabi paste, lemon juice, soy sauce, and sesame oil.

  2. 7

    Mix Well

Whisk the ingredients together until the sauce is smooth and creamy.

  3. 8

    Adjust Flavor

Taste the sauce and adjust the wasabi or lemon juice according to your preference.

Serving the Dish

  1. 9

    Slice the Tuna

Using a sharp knife, slice the rested tuna steaks into thin strips or desired thickness.

  2. 10

    Plate and Serve

Arrange the sliced tuna on a plate and drizzle generously with the wasabi mayo sauce. Serve immediately.
