Fried Chicken Ingredients
Method
Fried Chicken Preparation
- 1
Marinate the Chicken
In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Add the whole chicken, ensuring it is fully submerged in the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for best results.
- 2
Prepare the Coating
In a separate bowl, mix the all-purpose flour with a pinch of salt and pepper. This will be used to coat the chicken.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a large, deep skillet or Dutch oven, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Bread the Chicken
Remove the chicken from the marinade and allow any excess buttermilk to drip off. Dredge the chicken in the flour mixture, coating it evenly. Shake off any excess flour.
- 5
Fry the Chicken
Carefully place the coated chicken in the hot oil. Fry for about 15-20 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 74°C).
- 6
Drain and Serve
Once fried, remove the chicken from the oil and place it on a wire rack or paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot.
