Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cube Steak

Season the cube steak on both sides with salt and black pepper. Dredge each piece in all-purpose flour, shaking off any excess flour.

  2. 2

    Fry the Steak

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the floured cube steaks to the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until nicely browned. Remove the steaks and set aside.

  3. 3

    Make the Gravy

In the same skillet, add the sliced brown onion and sauté until softened and golden brown, about 5-7 minutes. Pour in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and thyme. Bring to a simmer.

  4. 4

    Thicken the Gravy

In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Gradually add the slurry to the simmering gravy while stirring. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the gravy thickens.

  5. 5

    Combine and Serve

Return the fried cube steaks to the skillet, spooning the gravy over the top. Let them simmer in the gravy for about 5 minutes before serving hot.
