Cooking the Oats

Boil the Water
In a medium-sized pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil over high heat.

Add Oats and Salt
Once the water is boiling, stir in 1 cup of steel cut oats and 1 tsp of salt.

Simmer
Reduce the heat to a low simmer and cover the pot. Allow the oats to cook for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally until they reach the desired consistency.

Incorporate Flavorings
After the oats have cooked and are creamy, stir in 2 tbs of brown sugar, 1 tsp of ground cinnamon, and 1 cup of golden raisins.

Adjust Consistency
If the oatmeal is too thick, add a little more water or milk to reach your preferred consistency. Stir well to combine.
Serving

Serve Hot
Remove from heat and let sit for a minute before serving. Dish the oatmeal into bowls and enjoy hot, optionally topped with additional brown sugar or cinnamon to taste.
