Method
Cooking the Pasta
- 1
Boil Water
In a large pot, bring water to a boil over high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the boiling water.
- 2
Cook Pasta
Add the rigatoni pasta to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 10-12 minutes.
- 3
Drain Pasta
Once cooked, drain the rigatoni in a colander and set aside. Reserve a cup of pasta water.
Making the Sauce
- 4
Sauté Garlic
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
- 5
Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, 1 teaspoon of salt, and black pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer.
- 6
Simmer Sauce
Let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.
- 7
Add Basil
Stir in the chopped fresh basil just before serving for added flavor.
Combine Pasta and Sauce
- 8
Mix Together
Add the drained rigatoni to the skillet with the sauce. If the sauce is too thick, add some reserved pasta water until desired consistency is reached.
- 9
Serve
Toss well to coat the pasta with the sauce. Serve hot, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese.
