Method

Cocktail Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Glass

Select a lowball glass or an Old Fashioned glass. If desired, chill the glass by filling it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail.

  2. 2

    Muddle Sugar and Bitters

In the prepared glass, place the sugar cube and add the Angostura bitters on top. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to crush the sugar cube until it dissolves slightly with the bitters.

  3. 3

    Add Bourbon

Pour 2 ounces of bourbon over the muddled sugar and bitters mixture.

  4. 4

    Add Ice

Add 4 ice cubes to the glass to chill the cocktail.

  5. 5

    Stir

Gently stir the mixture with a bar spoon to combine the ingredients and chill the drink further.

  6. 6

    Garnish

Using a vegetable peeler or knife, cut a twist of orange peel. Squeeze the peel over the drink to release the oils, and then drop it into the glass. Optionally, add a maraschino cherry for garnish.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve immediately and enjoy your classic Old Fashioned cocktail.
