Prepare the Patties
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently and form into 2 equally sized patties.

Add Cheese
In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and cover to allow it to melt.

Toast the Buns
While the cheese is melting, toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden.

Assemble the Burger
Spread mayonnaise on the bottom bun, followed by lettuce, the cooked patty with melted cheese, sliced tomato, pickles, ketchup, and mustard. Top with the other half of the bun.
