Prepare the T‑shirt
Prewash and dry the T-shirt to pre-shrink and remove finishes. Iron flat to remove wrinkles. Place a piece of scrap cardboard inside the shirt under the area where the applique will go to prevent adhesive from sticking layers together.

Cut a piece of lightweight fusible interfacing slightly smaller than the applique area (about 6 x 6 inches for a medium chest applique). Fuse it to the wrong side of the T-shirt following the manufacturer's instructions to stabilize the knit fabric. Let cool.

Create pattern
On paper, draw a simple black bear silhouette sized to fit your shirt (for example about 5–6 inches tall). Include separate pieces for: bear body, inner ears, muzzle/chest patch, and small eye highlight. Cut out paper templates.

Prepare fabrics
Trace each paper template (reverse the fusible-webbed pieces as needed) onto the fabric backside or onto the paper side of the fusible web per the product instructions. If using fusible web sheets, fuse the web to the wrong side of each fabric piece first, then cut the templates out. For precision, use small detail scissors for curves.

Peel the paper backing from each fusible-webbed fabric piece to expose the adhesive. Arrange the bear body piece on the T-shirt where desired, then place inner ear pieces and muzzle/chest piece in position. Temporarily tack with a few dots of fabric glue if desired.

Fuse applique to shirt
With the iron set to the cotton setting (no steam unless the fusible instructs), press each piece firmly according to the fusible web instructions. Use a pressing cloth if recommended. Work from largest piece (bear body) to smallest. Allow to cool so adhesive sets.

Secure edges by stitching
For durability, stitch around each appliqué piece. Options: use a narrow zigzag or satin stitch on a sewing machine, or a small whipstitch by hand with matching thread. Start with the bear body: stitch close to the edge all around, turning corners slowly for smooth curves. Repeat for inner ear, muzzle/chest, and the tiny white eye highlight. If using embroidery floss, add small satin stitches for nose/eye detail.

Add finishing touches
Trim any loose threads and press lightly from the inside of the shirt to avoid flattening the stitches. If desired, reinforce the inside of the applique area with a lightweight tear-away stabilizer or an additional line of stitching around the entire applique perimeter for extra durability. Remove the cardboard from inside the shirt and perform a final press.

Care instructions: Turn shirt inside out before washing, machine wash cold on gentle cycle, hang to dry or tumble dry low. Re-press if needed.
