For the Shrimp

Method

Preparing the Shrimp

1

Marinate the Shrimp

In a bowl, combine shrimp with Cajun seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and let it marinate for 15-20 minutes.

2

Prepare the Breading

In a shallow dish, whisk together the flour and cornmeal. In another bowl, beat the egg and mix it with buttermilk.

3

Bread the Shrimp

Dip each shrimp into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then dredge in the flour-cornmeal mixture until well coated. Set aside on a plate.

4

Heat Oil

In a deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

5

Fry the Shrimp

Fry the shrimp in batches for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Assembling the Sandwich

6

Prepare the Bread

Slice the French bread or hoagie rolls lengthwise without cutting all the way through. Toast lightly if desired.

7

Layer the Ingredients

Spread remoulade sauce on the inside of the bread. Add a handful of shredded lettuce, a few slices of tomato, and pickles.

8

Add the Shrimp

Place the fried shrimp generously on top of the vegetables in each sandwich.

9

Finish and Serve

Close the sandwich, slice in half if desired, and serve immediately with extra remoulade on the side.
