Preparation

1

Prepare the Smoke

Soak a cup of wood chips in water for at least 30 minutes. This will help create a cleaner smoke.

2

Create a Smoke Chamber

Use a handheld smoker or a stovetop smoker. If using a handheld smoker, fill it with the soaked wood chips and ignite them according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Mixing the Drink

3

Combine Ingredients

In a mixing glass, combine 2 oz of bourbon, 1 tsp of simple syrup, and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.

4

Add Ice

Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir gently for about 30 seconds until well-chilled.

5

Smoke the Drink

Using the handheld smoker, direct the smoke into the mixing glass with the drink components. Allow the drink to infuse with smoke for about 1 minute.

6

Strain and Serve

Strain the mixture into a rocks glass filled with a large ice cube.

Garnishing

7

Add Garnish

Twist the orange peel over the drink to release its oils and place it in the glass. Add the maraschino cherry on top.
