For the Coffee Mixture

For the Mascarpone Mixture

Method

Prepare the Coffee Mixture

  1. 1

    Brew the Espresso

Brew 1 cup of strong espresso and allow it to cool to room temperature.

  2. 2

    Mix the Coffee Mixture

In a shallow dish, combine the brewed espresso, coffee liqueur, and sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.

Prepare the Mascarpone Mixture

  1. 3

    Whisk the Egg Yolks

In a heatproof bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and powdered sugar. Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler) and whisk until the mixture is pale and slightly thickened, about 5 minutes.

  2. 4

    Remove from Heat

Remove the bowl from the heat and let it cool slightly.

  3. 5

    Combine with Mascarpone

Add the mascarpone cheese and vanilla extract to the egg yolk mixture. Gently fold until well combined.

  4. 6

    Whip the Heavy Cream

In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form.

  5. 7

    Fold in the Whipped Cream

Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully incorporated.

Assemble the Tiramisu

  1. 8

    Dip the Ladyfingers

Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.

  2. 9

    Layer the Ingredients

In a 9x9 inch (or similar size) dish, place a layer of dipped ladyfingers on the bottom. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.

  3. 10

    Repeat Layers

Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers on top of the mascarpone mixture, followed by the remaining mascarpone mixture.

  4. 11

    Chill

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.

  5. 12

    Serve

Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and sprinkle with chocolate shavings if desired.
