Method
Preparation
Cook the Bolognese Sauce
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
Add Tomatoes and Seasoning
Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and red wine (if using). Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and let it cook for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Cheese Mixture
Prepare the Cheese Mixture
In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, grated Parmesan cheese, salt, black pepper, and chopped parsley. Mix well until smooth.
Assemble the Lasagna
Layer the Ingredients
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of bolognese sauce on the bottom. Place 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread one-third of the cheese mixture over the noodles, followed by one-third of the bolognese sauce. Repeat the layers two more times, finishing with a layer of noodles and the remaining bolognese sauce.
Top with Mozzarella
Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top layer of bolognese sauce.
Bake
Bake the Lasagna
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
Garnish and Serve
Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.
