Method
Preparation of Bolognese Sauce
Sauté the Vegetables
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, minced carrot, and minced celery. Sauté until the vegetables are soft and translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
Brown the Meat
Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 8-10 minutes.
Add the Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Cheese Mixture Preparation
Combine Ingredients
In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, grated Parmesan cheese, salt, and black pepper. Mix until smooth and well combined.
Assembling the Lasagna
Layer the Ingredients
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of Bolognese sauce on the bottom. Place 3 lasagna sheets on top. Spread half of the cheese mixture over the lasagna sheets, followed by a third of the Bolognese sauce. Repeat the layers: 3 more lasagna sheets, the remaining cheese mixture, and another third of the Bolognese sauce. Top with the last 3 lasagna sheets and the remaining Bolognese sauce.
Add Toppings
Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top of the lasagna.
Baking
Bake the Lasagna
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
Rest and Serve
Remove from the oven and let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.
