Directions
- 1
Prepare the Squid
Rinse the fresh squid under cold water to remove any impurities. Pat them dry with paper towels. If the squid are whole, slice them into rings about 1/2 inch thick.
- 2
Make the Breading Mixture
In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. Mix well to ensure even distribution of the seasonings.

- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. The oil should reach about 350°F (175°C) for frying.
- 5
Coat the Squid
Dip each squid ring into the wet mixture, allowing any excess to drip off, then coat it with the dry breading mixture. Ensure that each piece is thoroughly covered.
- 6
Fry the Squid
Carefully place the coated squid rings into the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- 7
Serve
Serve the fried calamari hot with lemon wedges on the side for squeezing over the top. Enjoy!
