Method
Preparing the Pretzel Dough
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast and brown sugar in warm water. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Combine Ingredients
Add the salt and all-purpose flour to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead Dough
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shaping and Boiling the Pretzels
- 5
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
- 6
Divide Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces.
- 7
Shape Pretzels
Roll each piece into a long rope about 24 inches long. Shape into a 'U', then cross the ends and twist them before pressing the ends down to form a pretzel shape.
- 8
Prepare Baking Soda Bath
In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil and add the baking soda.
- 9
Boil Pretzels
Carefully add each pretzel to the boiling water for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 10
Baking the Pretzels
- 11
Bake Pretzels
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- 12
Cool Pretzels
Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.
Preparing Dipping Sauces
- 13
Prepare Queso
In a small saucepan over low heat, warm the white queso cheese until melted and smooth.
- 14
Prepare Ranch
Serve ranch dressing alongside the warm queso for dipping.
Final Touch
- 15
