Gravy Base
Method
Preparation of Gravy
- 1
Melt the Butter
In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter until it is fully melted and bubbling.
- 2
Make the Roux
Gradually whisk in the all-purpose flour to the melted butter, stirring constantly. Cook for about 2-3 minutes, until the mixture is golden brown and has a nutty aroma.
- 3
Add the Broth
Slowly pour in the turkey or chicken broth while continuing to whisk. This will help avoid lumps in the gravy.
- 4
Season the Gravy
Add the soy sauce, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, and dried rosemary to the mixture. Stir well to combine.
- 5
Simmer the Gravy
Bring the gravy to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally. Let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes until it thickens to your desired consistency.
- 6
Taste and Adjust
Taste the gravy and adjust the seasoning with additional salt or pepper if needed.
- 7
Serve
Once thickened and seasoned to your liking, remove the gravy from heat and serve warm, either drizzled over roasted turkey or as a dipping sauce for your subs.
