Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel Potatoes

Begin by washing the Russet potatoes thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt. If desired, peel the potatoes for a smoother fry.

  2. 2

    Cut Potatoes into Fries

Cut each potato into even strips, approximately 1/4 inch thick, to ensure they cook evenly.

Soaking

  1. 3

    Soak the Cut Potatoes

Place the cut fries into a large bowl and cover them with cold water. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and will lead to crispier fries.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large, heavy-bottomed pot (or deep fryer), heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). You can use a thermometer to check the temperature.

  2. 5

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels. Removing excess moisture is key to achieving crispy fries.

  3. 6

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a batch of fries (do not overcrowd) to the hot oil. Fry for about 5-7 minutes, or until they turn golden brown. Remove and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.

  4. 7

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste. Toss gently to coat evenly.
