Sandwich Components

Method

Coleslaw Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Coleslaw

In a large mixing bowl, combine shredded green cabbage and shredded carrot.

  2. 2

    Mix the Dressing

In a separate small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper until smooth.

  3. 3

    Combine

Pour the dressing over the cabbage and carrot mixture. Toss until well combined. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld.

Russian Dressing Preparation

  1. 4

    Make the Russian Dressing

In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, prepared horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, and paprika. Whisk until smooth and well combined.

  2. 5

    Chill

Refrigerate the dressing until ready to use.

Sandwich Assembly

  1. 6

    Toast the Rye Bread

Lightly toast the rye bread slices in a toaster or on a skillet until golden brown.

  2. 7

    Heat the Pastrami

In a skillet, heat the hot pastrami over medium heat until warmed through, about 2-3 minutes.

  3. 8

    Assemble the Sandwich

On two slices of toasted rye bread, layer the hot pastrami, followed by two slices of Swiss cheese. Top with a generous amount of coleslaw and a drizzle of Russian dressing. Place the remaining slices of rye bread on top.

  4. 9

    Serve

Cut the sandwich in half and serve immediately with extra coleslaw and dressing on the side.
