Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat and Prepare

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs and then add the whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine and Mix

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing with a spatula or mixer on low speed until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

Ganache Directions

  1. 8

    Heat the Cream

In a saucepan over medium heat, bring the heavy cream to a simmer. Do not let it boil.

  2. 9

    Combine with Chocolate

Remove the pan from heat and add the semi-sweet chocolate chips. Let them sit for 5 minutes without stirring.

  3. 10

    Stir Until Smooth

After 5 minutes, stir the mixture until the chocolate is completely melted and the ganache is smooth.

  4. 11

    Cool the Ganache

Allow the ganache to cool slightly at room temperature until it thickens but is still pourable.

  5. 12

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes have cooled completely, place one layer on a cake plate, pour some ganache over the top, then place the second layer on top and pour the remaining ganache over the entire cake.
