Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Grease four ramekins with butter and dust with cocoa powder to prevent sticking.

  2. 2

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semisweet chocolate and unsalted butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.

Mixing Ingredients

  1. 3

    Combine Sugar and Eggs

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, large eggs, and large egg yolk until well combined and slightly frothy.

  2. 4

    Add Chocolate Mixture

Slowly pour the melted chocolate and butter mixture into the egg mixture while whisking continuously to ensure the eggs don't scramble.

  3. 5

    Incorporate Vanilla and Flour

Add the vanilla extract and all-purpose flour to the chocolate mixture. Stir gently until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Baking

  1. 6

    Pour Batter into Ramekins

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling them about 2/3 full.

  2. 7

    Bake the Cakes

Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still soft.

  3. 8

    Cool Slightly

Remove the ramekins from the oven and let them cool for 1 minute.

Serving

  1. 9

    Serve the Cake

Carefully invert each ramekin onto a plate. Dust with powdered sugar and serve immediately with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
