Flan Ingredients

Method

Flan Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Caramel

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the granulated sugar. Stir continuously until the sugar is completely dissolved and turns a golden brown color. Quickly pour the caramel into a round flan mold or individual ramekins, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Let the caramel cool and harden.

  2. 2

    Mix the Flan Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract until well combined and smooth.

  3. 3

    Combine and Bake

Pour the flan mixture over the hardened caramel in the mold. Place the mold in a larger baking dish filled with hot water (bain-marie) for even cooking. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 50-60 minutes, or until set.

  4. 4

    Cool and Serve

Remove the flan from the oven, let it cool at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. To serve, run a knife around the edges and invert onto a serving plate to release the flan from the mold. Drizzle with any remaining caramel.
